TSN.ca NFL Editor Justin Boone runs down the top waiver

TSN.ca NFL Editor Justin Boone runs down the top waiver wire pickups with a focus on the coming week and the rest of the season. QUARTERBACKS Colin Kaepernick (at Rams)This is more of a reminder, since we featured Kaepernick in this space last week. While the 49ers played coy about who their starter would be, Kaepernick was the one under centre on Sunday, throwing for 231 yards and a touchdown, while adding 27 yards on the ground and a rushing score. Kaepernick has helped give the 49ers a whole new dimension on offence and it would be a mistake for them to go back to the game manager Alex Smith. Kaepernick is a borderline QB1 the rest of the way. Jake Locker (vs. Texans)Locker had a nice game last week, posting 261 passing yards, 21 rushing yards, and throwing for two touchdowns against the Jaguars. Much like Kaepernick, Lockers value is increased due to his ability to make plays with his legs. Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer was shown the door on Monday, so the team may be willing to open up the offence a little more down the stretch. Locker is a QB2, with QB1 upside as he faces a Texans defence that has suffered a variety of injuries and is now vulnerable to the pass. Others to consider - Ryan Fitzpatrick (vs. Jaguars), Chad Henne (at Bills), Ryan Tannehill (vs. Patriots) RUNNING BACKS Knowshon Moreno, Denver (vs. Buccaneers)Eagles rookie Bryce Brown should have been picked up last week. If he wasnt, then he should be the top choice among running backs this week after a big game on Monday Night Football. After Brown, Moreno earns top honours as he became a surprise starter on Sunday morning. Not only did Moreno start, but he dominated carries in the Broncos backfield, rendering rookie Ronnie Hillman useless. Moreno has a tough matchup this week and is a health risk, but Denvers schedule down the stretch is appealing and he could make an impact as part of a high-powered Broncos attack. Michael Bush (vs. Seahawks)Its been a relatively quiet season for Bush, but with Matt Forte likely to miss this week with an ankle injury, Bush becomes the lead back for the Bears. The Seahawks are one of the leagues best defences, but they have begun to give up yards on the ground in recent weeks. Bush will always be a threat for goal line carries, but now he should add enough yardage to make him a solid RB2 this week. DeAngelo Williams (at Chiefs)Another backup that could be thrust into the starting lineup due to injury, Williams took over for Jonathan Stewart late in the game Monday night. Stewart has re-injured his ankle and his status for Sunday is in doubt. Williams had just 11 carries for 21 yards against the Eagles, but a matchup with the Chiefs where he doesnt have to share the load is enticing. Rashad Jennings (at Bills)When Maurice Jones-Drew was sidelined, Jennings was unable to take advantage of his new starting role. The team benched him in favour of Jalen Parmele, but now Parmele is injured as well. With a second chance to showcase his talents before becoming a free agent in the off-season, Jennings will likely start versus the Bills, who have given up the most fantasy points to running backs this season. Others to consider - RB Jacquizz Rodgers (vs. Saints), Bilal Powell (vs. Cardinals), Daniel Thomas (vs. Patriots), David Wilson (at Redskins), Shane Vereen (at Dolphins) WIDE RECEIVERS WR Ryan Broyles (vs. Colts)There are several interesting options at wide receiver this week, who could step right into the WR3 slot on your roster. Broyles made the most of his opportunity on Thanksgiving, as the 510, 188-pound pass catcher hauled in six catches on 12 targets for 126 yards. Broyles looked crisp running his routes and appeared to be on the same page with quarterback Matthew Stafford, something that cant be said for Titus Young, who he replaced. Broyles is expected to continue to start across from Calvin Johnson and will have a great matchup this week against the Colts secondary. T.Y. Hilton (at Lions)The third rounder has become a playmaker for Indianapolis, both on offence and special teams. Hilton has to fight with Donnie Avery for playing time, but he has excelled when on the field and is a threat to score at any given moment. The Lions arent shy about giving up big yardage in the passing game and Andrew Luck will look to capitalize by hitting his receivers deep. Davone Bess (vs. Patriots)Early in the season, all the excitement in the Dolphins receiving corps was focused on Brian Hartline. However, in the last few weeks Bess has become the teams leading receiver. Bess has had no fewer than six targets in any game this season and is on pace for over 1,000 receiving yards on the year. With two double-digit fantasy point games in a row, Bess will now square off with the Patriots, who have given up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing receivers. Others to consider - Julian Edelman (at Dolphins), Dwayne Harris/Cole Beasley (vs. Eagles), Mohamed Sanu (at Chargers), Chris Givens (vs. 49ers) TIGHT ENDS Marcedes Lewis (at Bills)Count Lewis among the Jaguars pass catchers who are benefitting from Chad Henne being at the helm. Lewis is a solid red zone threat and has two scores since Henne has taken over. With tight end being a very tough position to find quality replacements, Lewis has as good a shot as any to find the end zone against the Bills. Others to consider - Dallas Clark (at Broncos), Dennis Pitta (vs. Steelers), Rob Housler (at Jets) Beats By Dre Cyber Monday Deals 2013 . Pete Times Forum in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. The fourth-seeded Penguins had a chance to end the series Saturday afternoon on home ice, but the Lightning destroyed Pittsburgh by an 8-2 score to cut the series deficit to 3-2. "Those players will not be eligible for selection (Wednesday against the Houston Dynamo)," Toronto coach Paul Mariner said Tuesday night of Miguel Aceval, Luis Silva and Nick Soolsma. NEWARK, N.J. -- Ray Emery gave up four goals on 15 shots in 22:47 of playing time, and even had a fight Friday against Washington. On Saturday against New Jersey, he showed a different kind of fight. Emery stopped all 14 shots he faced, leading the Flyers past the Devils 1-0 in perhaps last-place Philadelphias most complete effort of the season. "A night like tonight, its not that hard to stay focused after a game like last night," said Emery, who participated in a line brawl between the Flyers and Capitals, headlined by him fighting an unwilling Braden Holtby in the 7-0 loss. "You challenge yourself and you could see it in the whole team that we were embarrassed. "We were gonna show how much we wanted to play tonight." The Flyers, coming off easily their worst game of the season, indeed put together a gutsy effort that was enough to beat a New Jersey team that hadnt played since Tuesday. "I knew the guys would be ready to go," Flyers coach Craig Berube said. "They were obviously very frustrated and upset at the game against Washington. I knew that the focus was there and (they) played a strong game." Philadelphia recorded just its fourth win of the season, and perhaps turned a corner at the Prudential Center, of all places, a building in which the Flyers had failed to get a victory in the past six tries. "Its been a tough building for us to come in and play," Berube said. "I thought we finally had the patience to beat them in a game. Thats basically what it boils down to." On Friday, Emery received the highest total of 29 penalty minutes. He was charged with leaving the goal crease, instigating a fight, and fighting. He was also ejected from the game. In the melee, a total of 114 penalty minutes were handed out. "Theres a reason that stuff happens last night in the game. They care," Berube said. "Theyre mad and theyre frustrated. I know what theyre feeling. Ive been there. I knew theyd be ready." The Flyers scored the lone goal on a deflection by Brayden Schenn, who altered a shot from Andrej Meszaros, to beat New Jerseys Martin Brodeurr at 14:29 of the first period.dddddddddddd "Its just important to have a bounce-back effort after last night. It really was a complete team game from start to finish," Emery said. "The most encouraging thing was the third period where we really took it to them. They didnt get anything. They got two shots. We needed that after last night." Emery, in his second stint with the Flyers, posted his 15th career shutout. "Hes been a winner and a battler his whole life," Berube added. "I knew hed have a good game." The Devils simply didnt get the effort they wanted, going 0-for-5 on the power play. New Jersey had just three shots with the man advantage. "We just didnt play very well," New Jerseys Jaromir Jagr said. "We didnt play good enough to win the game, and we didnt have to play extra good (to win)." New Jersey was short two forwards, as Patrik Elias (upper body) and Travis Zajac (ankle) were late scratches. "We had some power plays," Jagr said, "(but) we had to change it because we missed two guys right before the game." New Jersey will be in Minnesota on Sunday, and Zajac and Elias will not be with the team. Brodeur -- who made his third consecutive start in the loss and finished with 20 saves -- said he will not play vs. the Wild. "I thought Marty was good, he gave us a chance to win," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said. "I thought, defensively, we were fine. We were good enough to win. "It was the other end of the ice that didnt get the job done." NOTES: The NHL did not suspend Emery for his actions in Fridays brawl. ... Devils F Mattias Tedenby played in place of Elias. . The Flyers announced that F Steve Downie would be released from the hospital Sunday. Downie is out indefinitely with a concussion. . Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said F Vincent Lecavalier will play Tuesday in Carolina after being listed as day-to-day with facial contusions. . New Jersey G Keith Kinkaid backed up Brodeur, as Cory Schneider continues his stint on the IR with a lower-body injury. Schneider is expected to play Sunday. ' ' '
